About KairosAction: A Time to Speak, A Time to Act

KairosAction: A Time to Speak, A Time to Act began in 2006 in the Seattle area of Washington state, USA. In the
shadow of the United States' war in Iraq and amidst a culture of violence, the forming members of
Kairos felt that
they could no longer be silent about their discomfort with the state of the world. The original members asked
themselves whether they were in a
kairos moment – kairos is a New Testament word meaning "the right time, the
critical moment, the opportune time, a moment of truth, a time of decision" – and those original members decided
that yes, this was a kairos moment and they could no longer sit by doing nothing.

The small group of people who began
Kairos 2006 (the original working name for the group) has since grown into
a movement of fellow believers who resonate with the
Kairos Statement and the Kairos Stand of Confession. Our
aim, as people of faith, is to help find our voice and proclaim the good news of God's vision of shalom, of jubilee.
The
KairosAction process seeks to call our country and its institutions and leaders to abandon public policies and
practices that violate the spirit of jubilee and instead, to embrace a collective vision of peace, justice, community,
and wholeness. Today, we are no longer alone, no longer afraid, and no longer silent.
